Description
Drainage
is an endless task making urban areas and agricultural lands, which
without hydraulic interventions would naturally be unhealthy and
unusable due to persistent flooding, usable to the community.
The Venetia plain has been to a great extent redeemed/restored over
many centuries by the work of single inhabitants, communities, monastic
orders and states each following the other.
As in the past, the drainage boards, whose activities are provided
for and disciplined by specific State and Regional laws, today play
an essential role in the hydraulic protection of the territory.

In Veneto there are 20 drainage boards that carry
on their daily activity over 1,154,000 hectares managing on intheinterest
of the Government and Veneto Region 260 mechanical lifting plants
which pump an average a year of 1,700 million cubic metres of water
and 13,000 kilometres of drainage channels.
